Our long awaited trip to Perth came after a 6 months wait!! We were supposed to be there during my 25th birthday in December 2015 but all the accommodations at Margaret River were fully booked. I figured a Perth trip wouldn’t be complete without a night’s stay (at the very least) at Margaret River so we decided to postpone it. So here it is, my Perth itinerary I would like to share with you guys, as with all my other travelling adventures. 😉
This itinerary consists of how we spent our first few days in Perth City before heading down south to the Margaret River and Denmark.
We sat off in the day and took our flight via Scoot! Even with our Singapore passports, we still had to apply for visa to Australia. So please take note if it is your first time down under! You can get your visa applied online or get it down over the counter at the airport. But I would suggest getting it settled beforehand.
As Roy had some additional credits left with Scoot (due to paying for expensive December tickets), we enjoyed a good meal on board the flight hehe. It was my first time flying with Scoot for a 4 hour flight. My past few times were to Bangkok and they were only a short 1-2 hours.
After 5 hours, we arrived in Aussieland! First thing we did when we cleared immigrations was, of course, to get our data sim card with Optus! It is available at Terminal 1. I’m not sure if they have counters at other terminals, you may have to do a check.
At AUD$2 a day, you will get 500MB, unlimited standard national calls & text (to contact your partner), and other information at the top. We were going to be there for a week and the available credit options were $10, $20, $30 onwards. So we bought the $20.00 card.
Once we were done with settling our data card, we made our way to Terminal 3 via the free bus shuttle. It took around 20 minutes to come and it was quite a long ride there. From Terminal 3, we took Bus 40 to Perth City to get to our Citadines apartment. The bus ride to the city was about 30mins – 40mins duration.
Our bus stop was the second last stop in the schedule below. However, the bus does not stop at every stop. So please keep a lookout or speak to your bus drive about it.
From the bus stop, it was a 4 minute walk in the cold to our apartment. Wasn’t too bad!
In case you missed it above,
Where did we stay in Perth City? – Citadines St Georges Terrace Perth
We chose the location primarily because of the location and pricing. It is a service apartment fully fitted with work table and a kitchenette, just perfect for the both of us since we brought work to do.
Our room wasn’t too shabby!
There was also a lounge sofa for you to rest on.
The only thing about this place was that the toilet was a bit old looking. But it was clean so we were fine with it! Just listing it out in case some of you prefer big modern toilets with a bathtub.
Fresh towels and bath toiletries were provided everyday.
Since it was already 9pm, all the shops were closed and the available food options were just fast-food.
What else but our dear McDonald’s right?
Perth Itinerary Day 1 – Breakfast at The Deck Cafe, Perth Town Hall, Perth City & Watertown Brand Shopping Outlet
The Deck Cafe & Lounge is a short 2 mins walk away from our apartment. It is located within the Commonwealth Bank building, so you can expect an office crowd. This place is a cafe in the day and transforms into a bar lounge after work hours. I’ve walked past The Deck in the evening and saw lots of people chilling with a bottle of beer in their hands and grooving to lounge music. 🙂
The dishes available in the menu were simple, nothing fanciful and the pricing was quite affordable.
A cup of hot chai latte to kickstart my day right!
Roy and I both had Eggs on Toast AUD12 each. His were poached eggs while mine were scrambled.
Just like the menu, everything was kept clean and nothing fanciful. No savoury sauce or anything but.. IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!! I love it when they get the most basic stuff done right! Because honestly, some of the cafes in Singapore can’t even get their toast grilled properly and they charge a high price for that.
I really love this place and would want to come back again when I’m in Perth next time! We left with happy stomachs and were all smiles. Hehe, what a way to start our day!
It started drizzling while we were on our way to the Perth Town Hall. We walked through their shopping district and I got distracted by the shops. Not surprising haha. Saw Colette, Sportsgirl, Louvisa, etc.
Didn’t buy much except for a pair of Adidas Stan Smith in White/Hot Pink for AUD80. They had them in Kids size and I was able to fit them hahaha. I told the assistant that “I’m Asian size” and they laughed when they saw me wear the kids shoes in the store.
Initially, we thought this was the Perth Town Hall because of the structure and the brick exterior. But this was Wesley Uniting Church haha.
Frantically searching on Google maps for directions!! In the photos, you would notice I was on my phone quite frequently because I was the one guiding both of us.
The weather was gloomy because it was winter. 🙁 The Town Hall was only a 10 minutes walk from our apartment but because we got lost at the start and then got distracted by the shopping, we arrived only after an hour!! hahaha.
Just to let you know, the street leading down to Perth Town Hall is lined with lots of enticing shops like TARGET!!! I’m typing it in caps lock because I LOVE TARGET!! I haven’t been to one for about 5 years since I returned from my study exchange in the US. You’ll see why later.. It’s a heaven for girls especially!
Alas, the Perth Town Hall! Frankly speaking, there wasn’t much to see at this attraction. It is just a beautifully restored heritage venue. There was an exhibition going on but we didn’t go view it.
Perth Town Hall is located at:
Hay Street & Barrack Street.
Operating hours: 10am – 4pm.
Wearing Fabad’s Beach Please Crotchet Spag Top. – SGD$29.00
Our next destination was actually Watertown Brand Outlet but on our way there, we realised a highly recommended food joint (Toastface Grillah) was nearby! So we stopped by to grab a bite there first, hehe.
It’s quietly tucked at the end of a small alley so you gotta keep a lookout for it. It’s SUPER INDIE, just check out the rugged outlook with all the graffiti. There are no tables. Only benches, you can use the benches as tables if you want, or just hold the sandwich in your hands.
Lost count of the number of photos here with me on my phone HAHAH!!
The inside is very small and squeezy so we quickly placed our order and got out. It’s so hipster that the food menu is written on the door (not pictured).
We ordered the classic cheese toast (3 Cheese – AUD7) on garlic bread.
Well, don’t forget the photo taking opportunity with the walls of the back alley, always!
Toastface Grillah is located at:
143 Barrack Street.
Operating hours 7am – 4pm.
Our last stop of the day was Watertown Brand Outlet.

We spent about 2-3 hours window shopping mostly and did not do much shopping other than getting some really good bargains listed here:
1) Supre Printed Top – AUD1
2) Supre Knitted Scarf- AUD5
3) Supre Knitted Beanie – AUD5
4) Cotton On Gym Top – AUD10
5) Cotton On Gym Top – AUD5
6) Cotton On loose tank – AUD2
7) Havaianas slippers – AUD16 to no more than AUD30. Think we bought 5 pairs of Havaianas slippers there!
(There is no Havanianas store but a shop located at the first floor that sells lots of Ripcurl, Billabong stuff. You’ll find Havaianas footwear there!)
Converse is NOT cheap in Perth, even at the outlet. You’re better off buying Converse shoes in Singapore.
Watertown Brand Outlet Centre is located at:
840 Wellington Street
Operating hours: 9am – 530pm
And that’s all for our Day 1 in Perth! We spent the evening munching on juicy kebab rolls we got at the brand outlet centre and slowly walking back to our apartment. YES the entire City Centre is within 20 minutes walk radius from our Citadines apartment!!! Extremely convenient to get around!!
Here’s a summary of our activities in this post:
- Buy Optus Data card at T1 near Scoot
- Citadines St Georges Terrace Apartments Perth City
- Breakfast @ The Deck Cafe
- Perth Town Hall
- Lunch @ Toastface Grillah
